Design Challenge 3

The assignment is to take 30 photos of something we care about or inspires us, and use the Lightroom book module to create a photo book. I chose to document our trip to Rwanda (see Water Catchment System page for more details).

Initial photo set

In order to make a good photo book, you need good photos. During our 5 days in Rwanda, I took a total of 290 photos. It would have been more, but I was also working! I varied exposure, point of view, and aperture settings but only had natural light to work with.

Pictures for book

Putting together the book consisted of selecting the best photos from the total pictures. I chose 39 photos, and edited them to make them as effective as possible.

Final book

Putting the final book together and adding text, I explained what is happening in the photos with text blurbs and captions and tried to lay out the book in an engaging way. Click the link to see the PDF.

Conclusion

This project allowed us to practice our photography skills and photograph something we care about. Furthermore, it let us practice with more photo editing and the book module in Lightroom. I personally learned that taking photos while having other life experiences is not only fairly easy and out of the way, but can engage and connect to others in a positive way.
